My Sweet Emilio is a documentary photo series following several drag performers across New York City. It looks at drag as labor - preparation, the building of a persona, and performance as a personal and political act. What appears on stage is brief and controlled. Everything around it takes more time: long nights, discipline, endurance, and constant adjustment. The performance is the result of this work.
Coming from Georgia, where queer visibility is limited and often carries risk, the photographer enters these spaces from a different position - documenting a world where expression is more public, but still hard-earned.
